CULTURAL HERITAGE

Länsmansgården

Länsmansgården has a history going back several hundred years. Several sheriffs have lived in the manor house, maintaining law and order. Today, the farm is managed by, among others, the art association and Åkersberga garden society. The environment is a fantastic place to experience and enjoy all year round. In summer, there is also a magnificent display garden

Länsmansgården

The farm is first mentioned as Länsmansgård in 1721 but the building was built long before that. The oldest farm in the village is Skånsta, first mentioned in writing in 1401. The village included Kaplansgården and Länsmansgården, which are marked on a 1640 map. It was mainly inhabited by crown officials, who were officials in the county with the task of acting as a police authority and keeping an eye on the crown's transport, accommodation, roads etc.

The large number of buildings Länsmansgården originally had has been reduced and today the oldest buildings are the manor house. There are also the stables and the sheepfold, but these have been converted into a café/storage room. The farm labourer's cottage and the brewhouse have also been converted. The old buildings have cultural-historical values and, together with the newly built ones, form a pleasant and special farm environment character.

The Arts Council
Länsmansgården has had many owners, including Österåker municipality, which later donated the property to the art association in 1991. The art association has since managed the farm buildings and together with the Åkersberga Garden Society, the site has developed into an oasis for art and garden enthusiasts throughout the country.

The art gallery has an extensive programme of exhibitions throughout the year and is open Saturday and Sunday from 12-16.

See the full programme on their website. There is also an arts and crafts centre with the same opening hours as the Konsthall.

The Gardening Society
The Garden Society has its own display garden at Länsmansgården, but they also organise other activities throughout the year.

MARK AS FAVOURITE

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
