MUSEUM

Roslagen Maritime Museum

The museum shows the maritime history of Roslagen from many perspectives in an exciting basic exhibition for all the senses.

The Roslagen Maritime Museum is located in Älmsta by the Väddö Canal - a living museum that tells the story of Roslagen's rich maritime history. There is an old skipper's yard, a museum shop, a library and a pier where boaters along the Väddö Canal can moor. The museum is also a popular stop for walkers along the Roslagsleden trail.

Roslagens Sjöfartsminnesförening runs the business and organises traditional events such as Postrodden, Beckbyxans dag and steamboat trips with S/S Elmsta.

In the large boathouse, you can see post-rowing boats, engines, lighthouses, knots and a unique collection of bottle ships.

In summer, the museum is open for guided tours, coffee breaks and sales of the association's yearbook Horse spikes - filled with stories about life at sea and the people along the coast

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
