The White House

One of the houses at Ekbacken is Vita huset, which was originally a white building. The house was built in the 18th century, and was once a vicarage that stood by Österåker church.

When the house was to be demolished in 1985, Österåkers hembygdsförening thought that the house was worth preserving. Half of the tiled roof, the one facing Ekbacken, is the original. For the other half of the roof, the local history society received bricks from the Bergaskolan caretaker's house, which was to be demolished. In 1987, the White House was inaugurated and this is where the local history society holds its meetings and gatherings today. The house can also be hired as a function room.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
