The church was consecrated in 1706 and was commissioned by Fabian Wrede, then owner of the neighbouring Östanå Castle. It replaced a chapel from the 17th century.
The church is a cross-shaped church in red-coloured wood with a tower-like structure over the central section. It looks much as it did when it was built, except that a tiled roof has replaced the original shingle roof.
A church similar to Roslags-Kulla's is the Royal Admiralty Assembly's church Ulrika Pia in Karlskrona, which was completed in 1685. Both churches were probably built by immigrant carpenters from Ostrobothnia in Finland, where this type of building was common. They came to Karlskrona as shipbuilders for Karl XI's new naval town, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Roslags-kulla church has been named one of the seven wonders of Österåker.
