Birthplace of St Birgitta in Finsta

The birthplace of St Birgitta, Finsta, is a historical destination with Birgitta's prayer cave and Skederid church with the Birgitta Stone and the exhibition about Finsta and Birgitta.

Statue of St Bridget in bronze

Finsta is the place where St Bridget was born and spent her first years of life. Here you'll find Birgitta's prayer cave, St Birgitta's spring and Skederid church with the Birgitta Stone, as well as an exhibition about her life and significance. Both the Birgitta Trail and the Finsta Culture and Nature Trail run through the surrounding landscape - walks that link history, nature and tranquillity.

The site is kept alive by the Finsta Association - Föreningen för Finsta's past and future - which organises Birgitta Day on 7 October, May Day celebrations on Finstaåsen, lectures, book circles and local community meetings. The meeting point is Finsta station house, where there is also a book locker for those who want to exchange or borrow a book.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
