Cultural experiences large and small

Curious about culture and history? Roslagen has a wide and vibrant cultural offering - from museums and exhibitions to art centres, galleries, cultural centres and stages. Here, contemporary expressions coexist with historical environments such as mill towns, churches, manor houses and ancient monuments.

The landscape contains traces of Viking and early industrial history, as well as places where arts, crafts and stories continue to take shape today. Visit specialised museums and industrial heritage sites, follow the story through preserved cultural environments or discover local artists and creative meeting places.

The cultural experiences are spread throughout Roslagen - from Östhammar and Norrtälje to Österåker - and provide the opportunity to experience the region's history, architecture and contemporary cultural life at your own pace.

Did you know that;

Roslagen has inspired many of Sweden's most important artists and writers. The light, the sea and the landscape have left their mark on visual art, literature and music - from Evert Taube, whose songs contributed to the image of the Swedish archipelago, to Astrid Lindgren, whose stories shaped the idea of a child-friendly idyll close to the sea and nature. The artist and satirist Albert Engström also found his motifs here, while Bruno Liljefors depicted animals and nature in motion. The writer August Strindberg drew inspiration from the archipelago's landscape and drama.
