ISLANDS IN THE ROSE GARDEN

Welcome to the island world

The Roslagen archipelago, a unique archipelago of over 13,000 islands, stretches from Ljusterö in the south to Örskär in the north. Here you will encounter a diversity that few other places can offer - from barren cliffs and windswept outer islands to lush inner islands with picturesque villages.

The changing seasons constantly give the archipelago new guises. In summer, the bays sparkle like mirrors at dawn, while autumn's mists wrap the islands in a mysterious glow. Winter transforms the landscape into an icy paradise, where the silence is broken only by the creaking of ice and the whisper of the wind.

The contrasts are palpable: from bustling harbours and archipelago pubs to secluded coves where you can find total tranquillity. Islands like Fredlarna, with its hundreds of islets and skerries, offer a unique mosaic of grey cliffs, shiny water mirrors and red cottages. At the far end of the chain are the Swedish Highlands, a group of islands where the main island, Storön, boasts a lighthouse dating back to 1874 and offers outstanding views of the open sea.

Each island has its own history and charm. On Tjockö, you will find an archipelago idyll that has retained its original character, perfect for quiet walks and relaxation. The Näsudden nature reserve on Runö offers a rich flora and fauna, with ancient oaks and meadows that bear witness to the area's long history.

In the Roslagen archipelago, experiences change with the weather and the seasons. Some days it is calm and inviting, others wild and adventurous. Whether you want to get out on the water, hike the islands' forest trails or just enjoy the tranquillity of a cliff, there is always something to discover.
