Where is Arholma?

Arholma is located just over 25 km north-east of Norrtälje and is the last archipelago island before the Sea of Åland. Surrounded by nature reserves, the island offers sweeping views and a unique archipelago nature.

Accessibility

Arholma is accessible all year round by Waxholmsbolaget from Stockholm or by pass boat from Simpnäs on Björkö/Södra Väddö. Please note that the pier is not accessible and that traffic can be affected by ice conditions during the winter.

On-site services

Arholma has guest harbours, guest houses, restaurants and a shop with limited opening hours. Public toilets are available at the guest harbours. There is a marked campsite with a rubbish dump and bicycle hire near the jetty.

History of the programme

Arholma has a long history from shipping and defence to today's tourism. Arholma Båk from 1768 is one of Roslagen's most famous sea marks, and during the Cold War, Batteri Arholma was built - today an underground museum.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
