Black lion - a black stripe on the horizon

From a distance, this large island in the outer archipelago looks like a black stripe on the horizon. In addition to Uppland's largest deciduous forest, there is an exotic arboretum with thousands of trees, shrubs and a water garden. The island also offers several rock pools and excellent nature trails.

History of the programme
Svartlöga was inhabited from the 16th century until the 1960s. The island's protective groynes - and perhaps the resistance of the seal owners - helped it to escape the ravages of the Russians in 1719. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, boatbuilding flourished, with the master builder Erik Andersson at the forefront. Among other things, he built the K-labelled sand wedge Helmi - the last genuine rowing ship still sailing after careful renovation.

In 1928, the first steamboat arrived with tourists and summer guests, including the punch manufacturer Cederlund. Since then, the island has been a source of inspiration for many composers and artists - a place where nature, history and culture meet.
