Fåglarö - archipelago idyll with history, nature and community

Fåglarö has a typical archipelago nature with cliffs, beaches, forest, meadows and plenty of hiking trails. As late as the 1950s, the island had a vibrant agriculture, but today the island is dominated by holiday homes.

History of the programme
In 1719 there was really only one proper farm, on Fåglarö. It has a long and interesting history stretching back to the Middle Ages. On the other islands there were at least two or probably three crofts, one on Betsö (Fåglarö's grazing island), one on Älgö and probably also one on Mjölkö. The farm on Fåglarö was badly affected by the Russians and burned to the ground.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
