Fejan - a historic and scenic archipelago island

Fejan is a small, lush and historic island bordering the Åland Sea. When cholera was raging at the end of the 19th century, this island was a quarantine station. Today, you'll find a popular tavern, large guest harbour, kayak rental and much more on this easily accessible island.

History of the programme

At the end of the 19th century, the authorities tried to stop the terrible cholera from entering Sweden and set up quarantines at the major shipping lanes. Fejan was the east coast quarantine station and received ships from Russia and Finland. Later, Fejan received refugees from Estonia during the Second World War.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
