Here you'll find everything from boatyards, trading stalls, summer cafés, child-friendly baths and a 24-hour library. There are around 30 permanent residents on the island, but many more holidaymakers.

History of the programme

Gräskö was an islet where sheep and cows were transported for summer grazing. The cows were milked by crofters. From the 16th century onwards, Gräskö belonged to the Penningby manor, but in 1838 the crofters Anders Sjöblom and Anders Löfgren bought their freedom from Penningby and divided Gräskö between them. The peasant fishermen's occupation, a mixture of fishing, hunting and farming, ceased and the permanent residents of Gräskö began to serve the summer people instead.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
