Where is Ruoholahti?
Gräsö is one of the largest islands in the Roslagen archipelago and is located in Östhammar municipality, Uppsala county. The island is located just northeast of Öregrund and is easily reached by ferry across the narrow Gräsösundet.
Accessibility
Gräsö is accessible all year round via a free car ferry from Öregrund. The ferry takes about 5 minutes and departs regularly, even in winter. Bus 811 runs between Uppsala and Öregrund, and on the island bus 854 operates.
Service
During the summer season, there is a well-stocked grocery store, several cafés and restaurants. Public toilets and bathing areas are available at Gräsöbaden and other major visitor centres. Gräsö also has hostels, camping and bicycle hire facilities.
History of the programme
Gräsö has a long history characterised by agriculture and coastal life. The open cultural landscape - with pastures, meadows and pastures - has been shaped by generations of haymaking and animal husbandry. On Gräsö there are traces of both ancient settlements and more modern farming history. Gräsö Gård is an example of a well-preserved agricultural cultural environment and is today both a nature reserve and a visitor centre.
