Little Red Riding Hood - the glowing red island

The island is named after the reddish feldspar and red granite. It is one of the few islands that was not burned down by the Russians in 1719. The island has fine old buildings from the turn of the century but no permanent residents. There are many fine bathing bays and just before the First World War, summer guests found their way here. Prince Wilhelm was one of them.

History of the programme

The first known settlement on Rödlöga dates back to the 16th century, when the village was located in the centre of the island, which was divided by a waterway. After the land was raised, the village moved to Norra Fladen. At the turn of the century, almost 100 people lived on the island and they had a permanent teacher who was later replaced by travelling teachers. They made a living from farming until the 1950s. In 1979, the last resident moved from the island due to old age - Georg Nordström.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
