History of the programme
In 1886, Rosättra Boatyard was established to build pilot boats and sailing yachts, including Laurinkostrar and later Linjettbåtar. At the end of the 19th century, the pink granite was quarried by the sea and transported to Stockholm as a building material for many parade buildings, including the Opera, the Riksdag House, the Riksbank, Sofia Church, Carl Milles” pillar for the ”Bågspännaren” at Liljevalch's art gallery and the giant 24-tonne plinth for Milles” sculpture "Solosångaren" at Strömparterren and EG Asplund's granite cross at Skogskyrkogården. In the 1920s, diabase was also quarried on Vätö, for example for the Match Palace in Stockholm. The Vätö Bridge was inaugurated in 1993, before which there was a ferry. The church, which was probably built in the 14th century on a high terrace, is located near the bridge over Vätösund.
