Söderöra - Winter scenes of the Salt Crow

Genuine archipelago settlement and beautiful nature. The island, together with Norröra, became famous in the 1960s from the filming of Saltkråkan. You can still recognise many of the settings from the winter scenes.

History of the programme
Söderöra had its first permanent population in the 16th century. They made a living from farming, fishing and hunting. The last farm was abandoned in the 1960s. The island had skilled boat builders, including Erik Söderman, who built large boats. In 1948, the Nordic Museum documented boatbuilding on the island. Einar Sjöblom was the island's only professional boatbuilder at the time and built 400 vessels. Söderöra had a public school, shared with the neighbouring island of Norröra, until the 1960s. Archipelago man Gösta Söderman lived on the island all his life. His life is documented in the film ”Gösta - Skärkarlen”.
