In connection with the Roslagsmuseet exhibition "Waterways. Ancient transport routes and trade routes", we hereby invite you to a full day of presentations and discussions focusing on ancient transport and trade routes. The presentations will be given by researchers in the fields of marine archaeology and archaeology. The day will include presentations on Baltic seafarers, barrages, trade goods and ancient waterways that we still find traces of today.
Lectures and speakers during the day:
Gotska Sandön - a maritime crossroads, Johan Rönnby, PhD, Professor of Archaeology, Marine Archaeological Research Institute (MARIS), Södertörn University.
Archaeology at the edge of a beach, Veronica Palm, Archaeologist and Deputy Director of Västervik Museum and PhD student in archaeology at Södertörn University.
Over land and water - summer and winter. On prehistoric and early historic transport technologies, Christer Westerdahl, Professor Emeritus of Maritime Archaeology, NTNU in Trondheim.
Barriers along Sweden's Baltic coast, Mikael Fredholm, Director, Archaeology Unit, Wrecks - Museum of Wrecks.
Eastern influences and Roman contacts in the Norrtälje region reflected in the artefacts, Thomas Eriksson, PhD. Antiquary with responsibility for the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, Swedish National History Museums.
