Exhibition: Wira's Women – In the Shadow of the Mill

Welcome to explore the women's history of Wira Bruk with us.

”Wiras Women – In the Shadow of the Forge” is a documentary and artistic project about the role of women in the history of Wira Bruk. Those who worked and lived here. Those who passed on traditions, enabled the work in the forge and created in things other than iron. In the story of the smiths' forge, the women have been present all along, but have seldom been given a place.

Where is the history of the women at the mill? The wives, the daughters, the mothers, the sisters. Who were they? What were their names, and what did they do? Like many of the world's historical accounts, the women's stories and voices are missing from Wira too. And this has created a great curiosity: can the history of Wira's women be found today?

The exhibition runs between 27 June and 9 August and is being held in collaboration with Wira Bruks Kulturförening and with contributions from Österåker Municipality.
