The Angarn ridge is rich in cultural-historical environments. There are a large number of runic inscriptions here, the ancient waterway Långhundraleden and a cultural landscape with a partly archaic structure.
The ridge also has large forest areas suitable for rambling. The Tärnan area in the northern part of Angarnkilen is a wilderness area with large forests and many small lakes. Large open cultural landscapes are found mainly around the old farms such as Stora Säby, The rectory and Lingsberg. Several burial mounds bear witness to the area being a prosperous region already during the Bronze Age. In Roslags-Kulla, there is an elm church from 1706. Popular walking and exercise areas with trails and tracks can be found, among other places Domarudden in Österåker.
Bogesundskilen is encompassed by Bogesundslandet and the cultural-historical landscape north of Värtan, around Rydboholm. Bogesundslandet, with its large, continuous forests, is of national interest for outdoor recreation and is now protected as a nature reserve.
For those who want to get out into nature, there are various trails and walking paths ranging from a couple of kilometres in length up to ten miles. In several places along the walking paths there are shelters with barbecue areas, which are very popular destinations for excursions.
From Vaxholm also goes Blue trail, which winds its way along paths and old gravel roads throughout Bogesundslandet, via Rydbo and Åkersberga to Domarudden in Österåker Municipality.
Walking through the bright deciduous forests with their carpet of meadow flowers on an early summer evening is special. Birdlife is rich in both forests and lakes. Water areas that are of great importance as resting and breeding grounds for various bird species include Svinningeviken and Kyrkfjärden. In Träsksjön, you can hear the black-throated loon. At the Natura 2000 site Dammstakärret, centrally located on Bogesundslandet, there are several different types of bog plants.
