NATURAL AREAS

Aspbo

Are you looking for a nice picnic spot in the countryside where the kids can play? Where you can also have a barbecue and take a dip? Then we think you'll like Aspbo. As you approach Aspbo nature reserve, about five kilometres from Österbybruk, the nature changes character - from dark coniferous forest to lighter deciduous forest with water contact.

Bathing area Aspbo 3

There are large grassy areas and groves of hazel. On the shore of Stordammen there is a mixed forest with aspens and birches in old flower-rich pastures. There are two bathing areas with sandy bottoms and plenty of grassy areas for picnics and play. You can barbecue by the beach at two landscaped barbecue areas, and next to the eastern barbecue area there is a large area where you can camp.

There is a shorter trail of two kilometres in the area. Half the distance you walk along the water on the orange-marked Upplandsleden. The second half you turn off on a yellow-marked path that leads you through the small hilly forest. In spring you can listen to the birds' concert among the trees and if you're lucky you might see an otter swimming past in Stordammen. Ice skating and skiing tracks in winter In winter, when it's cold enough, ice skating and skiing tracks are ploughed on the ice. It's a cool experience to hear the sound of the blades against the ice on a sunny morning in February.

If you take the car, there are two car parks at Aspbo, a smaller one closer to Österbybruk and a larger one to the east. It is a reasonable cycling distance from Österbybruk. You can also get here on foot via Upplandsleden.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
