Nature seems untouched, but appearances are deceptive. In ancient times, there was a lot of activity in the wetlands. Marsh grazing was an important source of winter feed for livestock. When ironworks were established in the 17th century, the need for timber, firewood and coal increased and dams were built to improve access to water power. Hike or ski through forests and across bogs You can take long walks through forests and across bogs on paths and tracks. If you want to get off the beaten track, it's best to come here in winter and ski out over the frozen moorland. Then you start with advantage at Grodan. There is a car park right by the edge of the mire and the reserve boundary. A mile-long loop of the Upplandsleden trail runs through the reserve. Start at Stormon in the southern part of the area or at Risön in the northern part. Risön is a campsite where you can camp, fill up on drinking water and there is a barbecue area. A little further west is the croft Västergärde. Both the campsite and Västergärde can be rented for overnight stays by contacting the County Administrative Board.
