Health trail Åkersberga

Hälsans Stig in Åkersberga is part of an international public health concept that aims to encourage everyday exercise through accessible and safe walking routes. In Åkersberga, Österåker Municipality, in collaboration with the Swedish Heart and Lung Association, has created two trails - one north and one south - that together offer a varied walking experience.

Overview of the loops

  • North round: This loop goes through the centre of Åkersberga and the station area, further along the scenic Åkers Canal past Slussholmen and Slussen. It also passes residential areas in Åkerstorp and touches the green area of Röllingby hills.

  • Southern round: This loop leads through the well-kept residential areas of Margretelund and includes a small beech forest in Malmskogen.

A connecting path of about 2.7 km links the two loops, allowing for a longer and more varied walk.

Accessibility and experiences

The paths are designed to be easily accessible with small differences in altitude and hard surfaces. They are well signposted with kilometre signs and equipped with lighting and benches along the way, making them safe and comfortable to use even in the evening.

Along the trails, there are several small parks and artworks that contribute to a richer experience. During the winter months, this is further enhanced by striking lighting along some sections

Practical information

  • Total length: Approximately 12.3 km including the link road.

  • Starting points: You can start your walk anywhere along the trails.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
