The area consists of large mixed forest hills surrounded by an open cultural landscape with pastures, meadows and woodland. It is rich in cultural artefacts, including a large Iron Age burial ground in the south-western part.
In Röllingbybackar there are dry and fresh meadow areas with a flora consisting of species such as wild bread, St John's wort, timothy, wild oats, dogbane, hemp thistle, daisy and small and large bluebells. In the forest to the north-east, there are two small stands of the orchids night-flowering violet and maidenhair fern.
Röllingby hills are part of the Angarn-Bogesund wedges.
The Blue Trail passes partly through the area, and there are also several pleasant walking trails along the cultural landscape.
Hackstaberget is located in the eastern part of the recreation area and is a mixed forest area that extends up towards Skånsta. Hacksta has MTB trails and electric light trails as well as a frisbee golf course and outdoor gym.
