Stage 10 of the Roslagsleden trail begins with stunning views along the Väddö Canal towards Älmsta. The walk takes you through the enchanting nature of Storängen Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy older farmland and stunning views of the Åland Sea along the old Sandvik road.
Your walk starts at Bagghusbron bridge along the Väddö canal towards Älmsta. On the way you will pass the Roslagen Maritime Museum, an impressive museum with collections that tell the story of Roslagen's maritime history. At Storfjärden along the Väddö Canal, you can explore the odd bird world in Fågel-SKOGEN with signs about imaginary species such as the High-voiced Evening Warbler and the Chattering Jay.
Älmsta, which is partly on Väddö and partly on the mainland, offers amenities such as a grocery store, pharmacy, shops and several restaurants. In Vikingalunden by the people's park you will find Storängens nature reserve, a beautiful landscape with old oaks and pastures.
Take the opportunity to visit Väddö Gårdsmejeri just north of Roslagsleden, where you can experience locally produced, organic cheeses and participate in cow safaris during the summer.
After Storängen Nature Reserve, the trail continues east along the old Sandvik road to Sandvikens Camping on the east coast of Väddö. Here you will find a variety of facilities, including cabins, tent and caravan pitches, a child-friendly sandy beach and a restaurant, all with a magnificent view of the Åland Sea.
Culturally, the Roslagen Maritime Museum offers an exciting insight into maritime history, while the Väddö Canal, dug in the 19th century, offers a journey through the waterways of history. The canal has played a central role in the region's development and is now mainly used by pleasure craft, with around 20,000 boats passing through each year.
