Roslagsleden - stage 8

Stage 8 of the Roslagsleden trail invites you to an enchanting walk through a unique natural environment where forests and open fields are interwoven. The starting point in Vigelsjö Nature Reserve provides the opportunity for a multifaceted exploration. The bird-rich Ludden lake, now recreated for bird life, is surrounded by a scenic environment where a disabled-accessible bird tower offers a panoramic view.

The walk also passes Färsna 4H farm, where you can interact with the farm's animals and enjoy a moment of relaxation at the Systrarna Matjord café. The winding route from Färsna to Roslagsbro takes you through forest paths and rural gravel roads, parallel to the historic Broströmmen paddling trail.

Gillfjärden provides a break with its lovely swimming area, jetty and scenic surroundings. At Ludden and its surroundings, you will encounter a diversity of plant life, including desm bud, soap leaf and magic grape, which adds further dimensions to the walk.

Cultural and historical highlights include Roslagsbro Church, dating back to the 13th century. Also known as the "Cathedral of Roslagen," the church houses Sweden's oldest altarpiece, created by the Master of Roslagen in the 15th century. Artistic treasures, including a statue of St Erik, and paintings that have never been painted over, create a journey through time in this historic place.

Stage 8 of the Roslagsleden trail thus offers not only a physical walk but also an immersion in the varied beauty of nature, cultural riches and historical heritage.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
