NATURAL AREA

Forge Mora Forest

Smedsmoraskogens nature reserve is a quiet forest area in central Roslagen where old coniferous forest, swamp forests and marshland form a varied and moist environment. A rich flora of mosses and lichens lives here, including the rare ringed lichen. The reserve has no organised recreational facilities, which provides a more unspoilt nature experience for those who want to walk in a forest that has largely developed on nature's own terms.

Smedsmoraskogen nature reserve is a quiet forest area between lakes Marsjön and Trehörningen. Here, old coniferous forest spreads out together with swamp forests, marshland and laggkärr where deciduous trees, pine and spruce grow side by side. The forest is largely unaffected by modern forestry, which has created habitats for a rich flora of mosses, lichens and fungi. Among other things, the rare and red-listed ringed lichen has been found in several places in the reserve.

The area is part of Natura 2000 and is characterised by multi-layered old-growth forest, damp environments and plenty of dead wood, which is important for many species that live in the forest. There are no outdoor recreational facilities here apart from information signs, which provides a more unspoilt nature experience. At the same time, there is an infestation of spruce bark beetle, which has led to the death of some spruce trees and may cause them to fall. Visitors should therefore be vigilant, especially in windy weather.

"In the bosom of Roslagen on the flowering island, where the waves lapping against the shore, and the reeds waving and freshly cut hay, it smells against me sometimes, there I sit on a bench in the bersong and watch terns and seagulls"
