The leg begins at Brottö pier. From there you follow the gravel road up across the island, through the open agricultural landscape and past pastures and farm environments.
After just under a kilometre you reach the border with Ingmar Island. Here you can finish the hike or continue directly onto the Ingmarsö stage of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail.
The entire stage runs along a gravel road and is therefore more accessible than many other parts of the trail. The short distance makes Brottö a simple excursion in itself, but above all a natural part of a longer hike across several islands.
Brottö is fused with Ingmarsö and has a long history of fishing and agriculture.
Since 2004 Brottö archipelago farm Stockholm County's first cultural reserve. Here, the small-scale agricultural landscape is still kept open, with fields, pastures and farm environments that tell the story of how people have long lived and worked the land in the archipelago.
Here you can also spot the island's characteristic Highland cattle.
Information:
Brottö can be reached all year round by archipelago boat. A smooth alternative is to travel by public transport to Åsättra pier on Ljusterö and take the boat from there. You can also travel by boat from Stockholm via Vaxholm or get to Brottö from Ingmarsö and Svartsö, among other places.
Plan the whole journey in the SL journey planner and check current boat timetables with Waxholmsbolaget.
