Stockholm Archipelago Trail – Finnhamn

Finnhamn is something of an archipelago classic for hikers. The 10.1-kilometre stage goes through pine forests, meadows and pasture land, across bedrock and past swimming bays such as Paradisviken. Here, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail also meets the Båtluffarleden trail – with the rowing boat across the sound towards Ingmarsö and the opportunity to continue hiking from island to island.

Walk on Finnhamn

The walk starts at Finnhamn jetty and consists of several interconnected loops around Stora and Lilla Jolpan and Idholmen. The entire stage is 10.1 kilometres, but the loops make it easy to choose a shorter trip.

The trail alternates between forest paths, open ground and bedrock near the water. The terrain varies from easier gravel roads and paths to more uneven sections across rock surfaces and along the coast.

Along the way you pass fine cliffs, bathing bays and sea views, and on Idholmen the trail goes through an active archipelago farm with meadows, pastures and grazing animals.

Onwards to Ingmarsö by rowing boat

On Finnhamn, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail meets Båtluffarleden. By the strait towards Ingmarsö, there are rowing boats that make it possible to continue the hike across the water and onwards towards Ingmarsö and Brottö.

The rowing boat system is based on there always being at least one boat on each side of the sound. If the boats are on the wrong side, you may therefore need to make an extra trip across the sound with a rowing boat in tow and then back again before you continue.

The rope bridge becomes an adventurous break in the hike and an experience in itself.
