Stockholm Archipelago Trail – Ingmarsö

9.8 km · moderate

Ingmarsö offers a 9.8-kilometre walk through pastures, forest and village environments, with classic views of the Stockholm archipelago. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop for swimming, a coffee and cake or food, and via the Island Hopping Trail you can continue by rowing boat towards Finnhamn or hike further towards Brottö.

Hiking on Ingmarsö

The stage on Ingmarsö is 9.8 kilometres long and can be started at both Ingmarsö Norra and Ingmarsö Södra. It is recommended to walk the trail anti-clockwise.

The walk follows gravel roads and minor roads through the island's village environments and continues through pastures and forest towards Femsundbadet and Kålgårdsön. The terrain varies from easy-going sections to narrower and more hilly paths.

Along the path there are several opportunities for swimming and a short detour leads to Ingmarsö Bakery. Coop Ingmarsö, Ingmarsö tavern and other amenities are also close to the trail.

Between Brottö and Finnhamn

Ingmarsö lies right in the middle of a wonderful setting for anyone wanting to continue hiking across multiple islands. At one end, the island is connected to Brottö, and by the Femsund bath, the island-hopping trail (Båtluffarleden) connects towards Finnhamn.

Here you take a rowing boat across the sound to continue the hike. The rowing boat system is based on there always being at least one boat on each side, which sometimes means you need to make an extra trip with a boat in tow.

At the same time, an unusually large amount of services is concentrated on the island, with the Coop Ingmarsö, Ingmarsö tavern, bakery, accommodation, guest harbour and boatyard. This makes Ingmarsö a natural hub between Brottö and Finnhamn and makes it easy to continue the hike across several islands.
