Direct bus service: SL bus 806 runs from Arlanda to Norrtälje.
Trains & buses: Take the Arlanda Express or commuter train to Stockholm and change to bus or Roslagsbanan.
Taxi & car hire: Available at the airport, several companies offer fixed prices to Roslagen.
PS! SL bus service between Stockholm and Norrtälje is a smooth and comfortable way to travel through Roslagen. Several of the buses on the route are also double-deckers - which can be a real treat if you're a sucker for a good view! There's something liberating about simple pleasures - like seeing the world from a new angle, if only from the top floor of a bus...
By car from the south via Uppsala: Drive road 288 eastwards towards Östhammar and Öregrund.
By car from the north via Gävle: Drive the E4 south to Uppsala, turn off on road 288. Alternatively, you can drive road 76 south from Gävle, which runs along the coast through Tierp, Skärplinge and Hargshamn.
By public transport: Regional trains to Uppsala and from there onwards with UL bus lines:
Bus 811 Uppsala - Alunda - Gimo - Östhammar - Öregrund.
Direct bus 775 from Uppsala - Östhammar - Öregrund.
Bus 823 Uppsala - Österbybruk.
Bus 817 Östhammar - Gimo - Österbybruk.

By car from the south via Stockholm: Take the E18 towards Norrtälje.
By car from the west via Uppsala: Drive road 77 eastwards towards Rimbo and Norrtälje.
By car from the north via Gävle: Drive E4 to Uppsala and continue on road 77 or follow the coastal road road 76 southwards

From Stockholm: SL's Bus 676 from Tekniska Högskolan to Norrtälje (about 1 hour).
From Uppsala: UL bus 775 to Hallstavik and UL bus 805 to Rimbo. Further to the coast and inland: Local bus routes to Hallstavik, Älmsta/Väddö, Rådmansö, Vätö, Blidö/Yxlan and Åkersberga and to replica points at archipelago jetties for further connection to boat traffic.
Trains: Roslagsbanan departs from Östra station and goes towards Kårsta, Österskär and Näsbypark. Bus from Norrtälje bus station to Tekniska Högskolan (Östra station) takes 70 minutes and has the stop Arninge for change to Roslagsbanan.

Car ferry: Free car ferry between Yxlan and Furusund, perfect for those who want to get further out into the archipelago.
Åland boat: The Eckerö line runs from Grisslehamn to Eckerö in Åland.
Finland boat: Finnlines operates the Kappelskär - Åland - Finland route
Archipelago transport: Blidösundsbolaget operates services to several of the islands in the area, and Waxholmsbolaget runs regular services on the routes:

Route 28: Furusund - neighbouring islands
Route 30: Simnäs - Arholma
Route 31: Rävsnäs - neighbouring islands
Route 40: Arholma - Nynäshamn
By car from the south via Stockholm: Take the E18 towards Norrtälje, turn off at the Rosenkälla junction and follow road 276 towards Åkersberga and Österåker
By car from the west via Uppsala: Drive the E4 southwards from Uppsala towards Stockholm. Take exit 184 at Trafikplats Rosenkälla and turn left onto road 276 towards Åkersberga.
By car from the north via Gävle: Drive the E4 south towards Stockholm. At Trafikplats Rosenkälla (exit 184) turn off and turn left onto road 276 towards Åkersberga. Follow road 276 through Täby and on towards Österåker.
By public transport:
Roslagsbanan: Most convenient option - train from Stockholm Östra to Åkersberga and Österskär.
SL bus 670 to Arninge and then you can change to Roslagsbanan.
Boat & Ferry
Waxholmsbolaget serves the archipelago and goes to Ljusterö, Ingmarsö and other islands.
Car ferry: Free car ferry between Ljusterö and the mainland all year round.
Boat lock: If you are travelling by boat, you can lock in the Åkers Canal, which is a connection between Lake Garnsviken and Tunaviken, part of the Trälhavet. You can find information from the lock keeper at Tuna Harbour website
