Natural areas in Northern Roslagen

Pine Park

Stretch out on a sun-warmed bathing rock, walk around Hummelfjärden and watch the sun go down into the sea. Tallparken is a shoreline nature park with a rocky pine forest, a long stretch of coastline with cliffs, a small sandy beach and a rich system of paths and walkways. The marked Sjömilen walking trail leads you around the whole of Hummelfjärden. There are several barbecue areas and picnic tables in the area.

Gimo dam and Gimo mill site

Gimo Mill was built in the early 17th century, and the charming buildings in the village are still reminiscent of its heyday.

At Krutudden and Gammelhus there are many places to enjoy nature - close, easily accessible and right by the water. Krutudden is an outdoor recreation area close to the city centre on a headland that extends out into Östhammarfjärden.

The flora

The Florarna nature reserve gives a real wilderness feeling with vast marshes, old-growth forest and small lakes. The shy lynx lives here, owls hoot in the spring night and the forests are home to grouse, capercaillie and wolverine. In autumn, the cloudberries light up the bogs with their bright yellow berries.

Aspbo

Are you looking for a nice picnic spot in the countryside where the kids can play? Where you can also have a barbecue and take a dip? Then we think you'll like Aspbo. As you approach Aspbo nature reserve, about five kilometres from Österbybruk, the nature changes character - from dark coniferous forest to lighter deciduous forest with water contact.

Andersby meadow slopes

Andersby ängsbackar offers an idyllic cultural landscape reminiscent of what rural Sweden looked like at the end of the 19th century. This is an area that is perfect for walking and long lazy picnics.

Gillberga cauldron

Gillberga Gryte is a boulder and cave area near Hallstavik with large boulders, gorges, caves.

Viking Trail stage 4

The Viking Trail stage 4 runs through forest paths, gravel roads and historic environments around Häverödal. An easy hike where moss-covered stones and old milestones tell the story of Roslagen's long history as a route.

Häverö Priest's Meadow Nature Reserve

Häverö prästäng is a flower-rich nature reserve on the coast outside Herräng. Here, deciduous meadows, beach meadows and broadleaf forest meet in a landscape with over 300 plant species.

Forge Mora Forest

Smedsmoraskogen nature reserve outside Rimbo offers old coniferous forest, lichens and marshland.

Ängsö National Park

Ängsö is an island in the outer archipelago and the national park consists of meadows, pastures and broadleaf hills, coniferous forest, deciduous forest and arable land and reed beds. It is a valuable agricultural landscape with flowering hay meadows, pastures and pollarded trees.

Swedish Highlands Nature Reserve

Svenska Högarna is a group of islands in the easternmost part of Stockholm's outer archipelago, with a rich wildlife and barren archipelago nature.

Natural areas in Southern Roslagen

Kålgårdsöns Nature Reserve

Kålgårdsöns nature reserve now belongs to the Archipelago Foundation. The island has no ancient remains, but cairns are scattered throughout the island.

Röllingby hills and Hacksta

Röllingby hills extend into Åkersberga urban area, and are part of the Tärnan value centre in Angarnkilen.

Angarnkilen and Bogesundskilen

Angarnkilen and Bogesundskilen are two green nature trails where untouched forest, cultural landscapes, excursion destinations and hiking trails meet and connect places like Åkersberga, Rydbo and Vaxholm. The Blue Trail also runs through the area - a popular hiking trail that takes you through Bogesundslandet and on towards Domarudden.
